| The doors opened at 7pm, I
arrived at just before 8pm. I hadn't been able to
find someone to come along with me, so my dad
dropped me off. I went to the bar and got myself
an orange juice and sat down on the far side of
the room. As I surveyed the room I spotted a
familiar face yapping away at one of the tables
in the restaurant area across the other side. It was Nigel !! I pondered whether to go over and
say hello, but decided not to intrude just yet.
David left the table and headed round to the
staircase, walking right past where I was
sitting! I had a feeling it would be a good night
:-) Nigel then decided to go over to the DJ's
booth, I assume to request a song. A number of
people spotted him and he was collared for some
autographs and photos. I headed across the room
to say hello. He remembered me!! I got a photo
taken with him, and he invited me back to the
table for a chat. When we sat down to talk some
people came over to say hi, and get his
autograph, and a photo.... suffice it to say
there wasn't much conversation as we kept getting
interrupted :-) Oh to be famous :-) Most of the
conversation we did manage was small talk, he
asked how I was, said he appreciated the website,
etc... Nigel snuk off before Davids set to
freshen up, but did get me a drink before he left
with one of the complimentary vouchers he'd got ,
bless him !!
David came on stage at
about 10pm and opened the gig with Follow
Me, which is my favourite track
from the album. He sang a number of other tracks
from the album before singing a cover track, 'Mustang
Sally', which required audience
participation. There were a few more tracks from
the album, including OK,
Bluebird and Long
Time Coming, and David also
introduced the band. There was some laddish
banter between David and his old 'Martians'
friend, John Kielty !! The other cover track that
David sang was 'Sgt Peppers Lonely
Hearts Club Band'. All in all the
gig was good, it would have been better if
Chicago's had a better sound system, but it was
still worth going.

After David left the stage
I got another orange juice and found a seat along
by the bar. A strange man was doing some strange
dancing nearby... hmmm. Some girls sat near me
asked if I knew him, which I didn't, and invited
me to sit with them. After a little while the DJ
announced that David was signing autographs on
the balcony area, so I joined the queue with my
CD inlay. Nigel was chatting to some of the
people waiting and posing for a few photos. I got
a quick hug when he got to me :-) Shortly after
that a small group of people wisked past us all
and up to the area behind the booths... it was Malachi and Lemar !!! By this time David was wanting
a drink so we were all rationed to one signing
and one photo each. I got my autograph and piccie
and went back down to the bar.
I hung out with the girls
from earlier for a while, until about half past
midnight. They went off somewhere so I decided to
call it a night. I went out to the lobby and
phoned my dad to come get me. A minute later the
gang came past!! I followed them outside and
collared Nigel to say goodbye, and got a big hug
from him :-) I also got Malachi's autograph for
my brothers fiance, for which I had to borrow a
pen, because that was the one thing I'd forgotten
to bring with me. Malachi noticed my knee high
white 5inch heel platform boots, and commented on
them....
Apparently the gang were on
their way to a nightclub to finish off the
evening, but Nigel was too busy chatting to the
fans, so the others headed off without him!!! The
last I saw of Nige he was dashing down The
Drapery (one of the main shopping streets in
Northampton) to try to catch up with them :-) !!!
I had a brilliant night,
and am very very happy that I went ! :-) :-) :-)
THANK YOU NIGEL !!!
